Chardonnay. Its native land is Burgundy, but it is cultivated all over the world, both vinified on its own and with other grapes. This is because it adapts well to various types of climate, from cold to hot, but above all because it is able to improve over time as well as age in the bottle for decades. Strengthened by this conviction, Giacosa proposes this Langhe Chardonnay Rorea DOC that comes from grapes harvested in high hillside vineyards, such as those of Cascina Rorea in Trezzo Tinella. Superbly vinified, at the end of the transformation process the wine rests for six months on its lees and, after a year in the bottle, is ready to show all its elegance to the public. Straw yellow in colour, it has greenish reflections when young. The nose is intense, with clear notes of white flowers and exotic fruit. As it matures in the bottle, it takes on very pleasant smoky and dried fruit flavours. In the mouth it is fresh, full and harmonious. Served at the right temperature, cool but not cold, this white wine easily accompanies simple traditional hors d'oeuvres, fish and shellfish.
Cantina Giacosa fratelli: over 100 years of history. A long family history, made up of values handed down from father to son. We are in Neive, in the province of Cuneo. This is where it all began, with four brothers, Leone, Giovanni Battista, Costantino and Giuseppe, who settled there at the end of the 19th century to work as sharecroppers. Of the four, however, only Giuseppe cultivated the dream of having a winery in which to produce the wine from the hills where he was born. And on a day in June 1895, this dream could finally be realised. He learned that a wine cellar in Borgonuovo di Neive was for sale at the price of three thousand lire. A sum that he could never have afforded. Legend has it, however, that that night he had a dream and the next day he played the numbers suggested to him at Lotto while he was sleeping. It seems impossible. But with the winnings, he bought the winery. From generation to generation, it is always the family that manages the winery, with two clear reference elements: naturalness and quality, in every phase of transformation, from the vineyard to the cellar. Today Cantina Giacosa fratelli can count on about 50 hectares, divided into different areas.
