"Forlino" Rosso Liguria di Levante IGT 2022
  • Its beautiful label certainly does not go unnoticed on the table. We are talking about Forlino, Liguria di Levante IGT, Rosso, proposed here by Cantine Federici, La Baia del Sole. Produced from 40% Sangiovese grapes and 30% Merlot and Syrah, the vineyards are located in Luni, Castelnuovo Magra and La Spezia. Here, a few metres above sea level, the soils are sandy, with clayey fractions and small to medium-sized pebbles. We are, in fact, on the plain bordering the Forlino, the ancient river basin that brought water from the city of Luni. Harvesting in this case begins in September. The grapes are harvested by hand, in 20 kg crates, to be delivered to the cellar where they undergo careful selection. Temperature-controlled fermentation for about 10 - 12 days follows, followed by malolactic fermentation, again in steel, and bottle ageing. This reveals a wine characterised by a beautiful intense ruby colour, with clear aromas of ripe red berry fruit and spicy hints. In the mouth, however, it reveals itself to be a pleasantly dry wine, soft and characterised by a full flavour. These characteristics make it ideal with earthy appetisers, grilled vegetables, pappardelle alla lepre, grilled meat, game, poultry and cheese.

That of Cantine Federici, La Baia del Sole, is. a beautiful story of family, passion and tradition. Originally from Ortonovo, in the heart of the Colli di Luni DOC area, the family boasts a long farming tradition that has been handed down over time since the early 1900s. The company's vineyards extend over the hills with a strong vocation for wine-growing that embrace the entire DOC area, with soils of different morphologies, immersed in the enchanting Mediterranean scrub. Here, the excellent exposure, the beneficial temperature range, the constant ventilation, the proximity of the sea and the special microclimate that characterises the Levante Ligure region create the best conditions for a production of the highest quality, with wines characterised by remarkable organoleptic and olfactory complexity. The company's production facility is also state-of-the-art, equipped with the latest technology and a modern isobaric bottling line. The new wine cellar covers 1600 square metres and was inaugurated in 2015, designed and built according to the principles of bio-architecture. This complements the three existing historical structures and represents the family's desire to reduce environmental impact and maximise energy savings. Today, the company produces a wide range of wines, although Vermentino, Liguria's native grape par excellence, is the undisputed star. Whites appreciated worldwide for their freshness, elegance and finesse.
