DIEGO PRESSENDA S.S.A. Località Sant'Anna 98 - 12065 Monforte d'Alba (CN)
Ariota, in the Piedmontese dialect, means a pleasant breeze and gives its name to a special vineyard located in Monforte d'Alba. Here, among the hills of the Langhe, the wind blows constantly from the Ligurian Sea and gently caresses the grapes. This natural breath is the secret that protects the vines from humidity and preserves an aromatic freshness rarely found elsewhere. We are in a magical territory, historically renowned for the structure and longevity of its great red wines. Diego Pressenda’s winery stands in the charming hamlet of Sant’Anna. The family works the land with a modern and sustainable approach, combining artisanal vineyard care with precise winemaking. The grapes for this label grow at an altitude of 500 metres, at the very top of the hill. The soil here is poor, pale and extremely rich in limestone. This composition forces the roots to dig deep, giving the wine extraordinary finesse and backbone. The Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore designation follows strict regulations. To bear the term “Superiore”, the wine must be aged for at least one year, part of which must take place in wooden barrels. The selected grapes undergo a traditional maceration on the skins for ten days. Immediately after fermentation, the wine is transferred into French oak barriques, where it rests for around twelve months. In the glass it displays a beautiful ruby-red colour enhanced by bright violet reflections. The nose is rich and intense, driven by fresh fruit aromas. Clear notes of dark cherries and plums are joined by delicate spice hints and a sweet touch of mint chocolate. On the palate it is juicy and smooth. The alcohol is noticeable but never intrusive, thanks to the balance provided by silky tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, with pleasant vanilla nuances returning on the aftertaste. At the table it is a true all-rounder thanks to its remarkable versatility. Excellent with sausage ragù or a traditional braised meat dish.
The Langhe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are famous throughout the world for their landscapes lined with endless vineyards and for their great age-worthy red wines. To truly understand the most authentic and artisanal soul of this territory, however, one must leave the main roads and climb towards Monforte d’Alba, specifically to the hamlet of Perno. This is where the heart of the Diego Pressenda estate beats. Everything began in the mid-1970s, when Diego Pressenda and his wife Silvia, driven by a profound love for their land, decided to invest their future among these hills. It was a courageous choice, built on hard manual work and old-fashioned dedication. Over the years, that initial dream grew into a successful family-run estate. Today the next generation has joined the business: Francesca, Beatrice and Alessandro work alongside their parents, bringing fresh and dynamic energy. In this small wine “atelier”, every bottle is the result of a pact of honour between man and nature. Diego Pressenda’s philosophy is based on deep respect for the land and sustainable vineyard management.
