Corte Aura Soc.Agr. Via Colzano, 13, 25030 Adro BS
A rosé sparkling wine that knows exactly what it is doing. This is the Rosé Franciacorta DOCG from Corte Aura. We are in Adro, a small village in the province of Brescia, where the land tells centuries of farming history. The soils here are of glacial moraine origin, rich in minerals and pebbles left behind by ancient glaciers. Corte Aura’s winery occupies a strategic position, sheltered by Monte Alto and constantly refreshed by the breezes coming from nearby Lake Iseo. This continuous wind, affectionately known by locals as the “Aura”, is the vineyard’s secret guardian. It keeps the grapes healthy and fresh, prevents excess humidity and creates ideal temperature variations for the development of complex aromas. For this cuvée, the winery has chosen a blend led by Pinot Nero, which makes up 75%, complemented by 25% Chardonnay. Pinot Nero is the noble grape variety that contributes structure, body and its unmistakable fruit character. Chardonnay, meanwhile, refines the blend by bringing freshness, creaminess and natural elegance. In the cellar, production begins with a gentle pressing of the grapes to extract only the finest free-run juice and the most delicate colour from the Pinot Nero skins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The real distinctive feature lies in the fact that each vineyard parcel is vinified separately. Only later are the base wines blended to create the final cuvée. This is followed by a lengthy period of ageing in darkness: no fewer than 36 months on the lees in bottle. The result is a wine with a delicate pale pink colour and a fine, persistent mousse. On the nose it opens gracefully, revealing elegant aromas of blackberry and wild raspberry that immediately recall its Pinot Nero origins. On the palate it impresses with its balance. Smooth, juicy and enveloping, it is supported by vibrant acidity that refreshes the mouth and encourages another sip. At the table it pairs beautifully with tuna tataki, where the structure of Pinot Nero complements the richness of the fish. It is equally perfect with a classic seafood risotto, as its acidity balances the sweetness of shellfish.
There are wine projects that begin with a precise idea, almost an obsession: giving wine all the time it needs to reach its highest possible quality. This is the philosophy behind Corte Aura, a remarkable estate located in Adro, at the heart of Franciacorta. Founded in 2009 through the determination of Federico Fossati, the winery set itself a very clear goal from the outset: to produce outstanding Traditional Method sparkling wines capable of standing out for their freshness, balance and, above all, their remarkable drinkability. To achieve this, Federico chose to work alongside the highly respected oenologist Pierangelo Baita. Together, they created a modern winery that remains deeply rooted in the artisanal traditions of the region, where every decision is guided by absolute precision and a refusal to rush the process. The estate’s grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, come from several vineyard parcels spread across different municipalities within the Franciacorta appellation. This fragmentation is a deliberate strategic choice: each vineyard expresses unique nuances according to its soil composition and exposure, providing the winery with an extraordinary range of characteristics to blend into its various cuvées. If there is one element that truly defines the winemaking style of Corte Aura, however, it is undoubtedly the extended ageing on the lees. Franciacorta regulations impose minimum bottle-ageing requirements, but the winery has chosen to go far beyond them. Even its entry-level wines rest in the cellar for significantly longer than required by law, often exceeding thirty or even forty months of ageing. This is not a mere stylistic flourish but a precise production choice aimed at softening the wine and perfectly integrating the mousse. The result is immediately evident in the glass: creamy sparkling wines with a smooth, velvety palate, where the vibrant acidity typical of the region is beautifully balanced by mature and captivating aromatic complexity.
