It carries within it the warmth and strength of a borderland, its volcanic soils and the sun that kisses it for long months every year. Nurah, Malvasia delle Lipari DOC, proposed here by Cantine Colosi, is a fine goblet to offer to all lovers of Sicily and its sweet and raisin wines. It comes from the typical Aeolian vine, Malvasia, almost in purity. Only a small percentage is added, about 5% of Corinto Nero. Both grapes are harvested when fully ripe, when the summer sun has already begun to wither the berries, concentrating the sugar and the aromas. This is followed by a phase of drying in the sun, on racks, and a very careful vinification of the grapes now almost completely deprived of their water. For the final refinement, only stainless steel containers are used, so as not to alter the freshness of the initial fruit. Golden yellow, with greenish reflections, the nose has strong aromas of honey, ripe apricot and eucalyptus. There is sweetness in the mouth, and it is well perceived. But it is certainly not a cloying wine. On the contrary, all the elements are in perfect harmony with each other, and the end result is a wine of great pleasure and enjoyment.
For more than 40 years, the Colosi family has been cultivating vineyards in suggestive terraces on the sea of Salina, the small island of the Aeolian archipelago, a land highly suited to the cultivation of vines. 10 hectares between Capo Faro and Porri, an area considered among the best, both for exposure and the nature of the soil. Vineyards on old terraces, obtained by restoring old dry-stone walls, where the island's typical varieties are grown, from Corinto Nero, Nerello Cappuccio, Nerello Mascalese, Inzolia, to Catarratto and Malvasia. The latter, in particular, represents the main grape variety in the entire wine production of the area and of the Colosi winery. Moreover, the production focuses only on indigenous varieties, from the archipelago but also from the Sicilian territory, thanks to 20-year collaboration contracts with selected Sicilian producers.
