An international grape variety of French origin, and more specifically from the Loire Valley, Chenin Blanc has found an ideal habitat in the heart of South Africa. Here it is so at home that it is now considered the white grape variety par excellence. Its fundamental characteristic is that refreshing hint of acidity that can be found in all the wines produced. The version proposed by Ayama follows a simple vinification in steel, with a brief refinement before bottling. A wine made to be appreciated from a young age, without having to wait years to see it evolve. In the glass it has a beautiful straw yellow colour with greenish reflections. The nose has intense aromas of hay, flowers, tropical fruit, apricot and spices. In the mouth it is equally rich, with evident flavors of ripe fruit. The balance is guaranteed by a perfect balance between the softness given by the alcohol and a hint of residual sugar with the acidity of the grape variety. A wine intended for a convivial occasion. A dinner with friends or family, with it on the table, will certainly be even more enjoyable.
South Africa with an Italian heart. This is Ayama Wines, a beautiful winery located in one of the most fascinating corners of the Dark Continent, the southern slopes of the Perdeberg mountain. Founded in 1685 by the Frenchman Martin Pouisson, today it can count on about 170 hectares of vineyards. The Italian heart comes from the two entrepreneurs, Attilio and Michela who, with other Italian partners, friends and lovers of South Africa, decided to buy the estate in 2005. With an entrepreneurial intent, no doubt, but also philanthropic. The business, in fact, hosts a community of about 50 people, including adults and children, who collaborate in the maintenance of the farm, which since 1993 has been part of South Africa's national heritage conservation project. One last bit of trivia: Ayama is a Xhosa word meaning ''someone to lean on''. Perfect to describe the feeling that drove the two Italian entrepreneurs to embark on this adventure.
