Technical Data Sheet
CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Tuscany
  • Grapes Sangiovese and other complementary varieties
  • Sensations Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva is an intense ruby red colour. On the nose notes of ripe red fruit combine with pleasant hints of vanilla and spices. The palate is enveloping, balanced, but also lively and deep with soft and silky tannins. A wine full of character, with an excellent territorial identity, characterized by a long and persistent finish.
  • Vinification On arrival in the cellar, the bunches of grapes were destemmed and then softly pressed; the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place, for about a week. Maceration was managed with very delicate racking and delestage to guarantee an intense extraction but at the same time preserving the elegance and sweetness of the tannins. At the end of malolactic fermentation, which took place spontaneously by the end of the year, the assembled wine was aged in French and Hungarian oak barriques for about a year. Marchese Antinori was then bottled and aged in the bottle for an additional 12 months.
  • Alcoholic strength 14% vol.
  • Allergens Contains sulphites

This wine is made with fruit from the 130-hectare Tignanello estate and is Sangiovese with a smaller part Cabernet Sauvignon. The Marchesi Antinori 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is a dark and sultry expression with a higher degree of evident richness and concentration in this vintage that produced smaller, more compact berries. The tannins stand out tallest here, and there is some bitterness that is more in line with my expectations of the vintage. In fact, among these new Marchesi Antinori releases from 2017, this wine most accurately reflects the hot vintage especially in terms of mouthfeel. There is a pretty menthol note on the close. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, and the wine ages in French and Hungarian oak barrels for one year. Some 164,000 bottles will be released June 2020.

  • James Suckling 95

A tight, fruity red with black-cherry and blueberry aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied with chewy yet fine-grained tannins. Love the polish and focus. Driven and linear. Drink after 2021.

  • Wine Enthusiast 92

Aromas of ripe dark-skinned fruit, warm spice and blue flower mingle with a balsamic whiff of menthol. The firm, medium-bodied palate offers dried black cherry, licorice and a hint of espresso alongside taut, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2021–2027. KERIN O’KEEFE

  • Wine Spectator 90

A hefty dose of spicy oak wraps around the black cherry, plum and leather flavors. Muscular and broad, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, tar and spice. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2021 through 2028.

"Marchese Antinori" Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva 2021
  • A precursor of the great Tuscan reds, the Supertuscans, born from the marriage of native and international vines, Tignanello is one of those great wines that has made the history of Italian oenology. The idea was to apply in Tuscany the oenological techniques already successfully experimented in France, in particular in the area of Bordeaux. So: very low yields to increase concentration, use of 225-litre barriques and blending of different varieties to achieve stylistic perfection. Tignanello comes from the renowned vineyards of the estate located between the valleys of Greve and Pesa, in the heart of Chianti Classico. In the glass it gives a good impression thanks to its intense ruby red colour. The nose has complex notes ranging from tobacco to red fruits, with a hint of balsamic and leather. In the mouth it is the very representation of elegance, thanks to fine and noble tannins and its incredible balance. Long, not to say endless, its finish is capable of prolonging the pleasure of drinking for an entire evening. Produced only in the best vintages, it is an extremely long-lasting wine. To be bought today and then forgotten in the cellar while waiting for a great opportunity.

The Antinori family has been dedicated to wine production for more than six hundred years. From when, in 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori became part of the Florentine Guild of Vintners. Since then as many as 26 generations of the family have guided the destiny of the group, which today is one of the best known and best loved worldwide. The head of the company today is Marchese Piero Antinori, with the support of his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, all of whom are personally involved in the company's activities. The family's historic Tuscan and Umbrian estates have been joined over time by several others. Everywhere the aim of the Antinori family is to make the most of the local "terroir", seeking to produce fascinating and memorable wines. In this context, we cannot forget the great family Supertuscans, "Solaia" and "Tignanello", or the Chianti Classico wines that represent a quality reference point for all wine lovers.
