    This is a very pretty white with bright citrus, guava peel and green apples. Tense, agile and fluid, it zips through steely acidity to a fruity yet mineral finish. Drink now

    "Il Ginestraio" Bianco Costa Toscana IGT 2022
  • Chardonnay and Viognier in equal parts and a very accurate workmanship that begins with a careful selection of the grapes before arriving in the cellar. After pressing and clarification, the must is fermented in temperature-controlled tanks. This phase is essential to best preserve all the most delicate scents. After fermentation, part of the wine is aged in barriques for a period of about four months, with daily batonage. The result is Il Ginestraio of Usiglian del Vescovo, a wine of beautiful clarity and aromas of fresh fruit, peach and citrus, as well as acacia flowers. In the mouth it is soft, with good structure and medium body. Great freshness, mainly due to the presence of Viogner and the persistent taste. A perfect wine for a thousand occasions. Excellent with fish, it is also perfect in combination with some not excessively savoury first courses. Try it, for example, with a nice walnut sauce.

    That of Usiglian del Vescovo is one of the most compelling stories we have ever heard. Dating back to the Middle Ages, it was a feud of the bishops of Lucca and the subject of continuous claims by the Republic of Pisa. It then passed under the control of Florence in 1406 until, in 1495, the inhabitants of Pisa occupied the castle, putting the Florentine command on the run. Since then, until the entry of the current ownership in 2001, the leadership of the estate has changed hands several times. It has recently been the focus of a major redevelopment project involving 22 hectares of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Viognier vineyards, as well as 10 hectares of olive groves. The ageing cellar, obtained from the original medieval feud, houses barrels of medium and large capacity.
