    Aglianico Puglia IGT
  • Only bunches of Aglianico. Only the richest, most intense variety. Thus this wine of Polvanera was born, without compromise. A great wine of the territory able to satisfy the most demanding palates that comes from an accurate and process deliberately kept simple so as not to distort the best features of the grape. The fact that this is an important wine is immediately apparent after pouring it into the glass. Its colour is purple red, deep, impenetrable but still bright thanks to pleasant ruby reflections. The nose is intense, with clear hints of ripe red fruit. Blackberries, black cherries, plums and violets, with flavours of liquorice, leather and resin. In the mouth it is austere and tannic. A true Aglianico. Justly powerful and intense, it is a red that should be sipped very slowly. It is easy to drink and for this reason can be misleading but it is a wine with great structure.

    Filippo Cassano is the owner of Polvanera winery, a nice winery in Apulia that in a few short years has known how to impose itself on the market thanks to the quality of its wines. Today the company can count on about one hundred hectares of vineyards, mainly cultivated with the alberello system. All the typical varieties of the territory are cultivated, starting from Primitivo, which is considered the workhorse of the company, but also Fiano and Aglianico, as well as Falanghina of course. An advocate of organic farming, Polvanera is considered by his colleagues to be a true purist who uses only the simplest and most traditional processing techniques. No barrel ageing to avoid covering the best scents of the grapes, with the bottles left to rest for a long time inside the cellar dug out of the rock, where temperature and humidity remain constant throughout the year.
