The Gianni Gagliardo 2019 Roero Arneis offers up the peach, lemon blossom and glossy fruit aromas that are characteristic of Arneis. The wine is happily contained in terms of its intensity, and it offers a versatile approach that bodes well for a pairing with a classic Italian insalata di mare or with mainstream sushi and sashimi. This is a light and easy white wine to enjoy on a warm summer afternoon.
Spiced-pear, celery and fresh-sage aromas. Sea salt, too. Full-bodied, creamy and fruity with a tangy yet round and creamy texture. Flavorful finish. Drink and enjoy.
The stylistic choice made by Poderi Gianni Gagliardo is very reminiscent of that made by many vignerons in Burgundy. Here the Chardonnay is aged for a long time on its fine lees, kept in constant movement through repeated manual interventions. In the case of this Roero Arneis, after a particularly soft pressing and fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, the wine is aged on the lees, and they are constantly kept in motion so that they release persuasive aromas and scents. Compared to those produced by its transalpine cousins, this Piedmontese white is fresher and more fragrant. In fact, it avoids malolactic conversion, preserving the natural acidity of the grapes. The result is a wine of great pleasantness that plays on the tones of fresh fruit, from peach to pear and apple.
The origin of the Cantina Poderi Gianni Gagliardo dates back to 1847, even if the first bottles marketed under the company brand date back to the first half of the 1970s. Today, Poderi Gianni Gagliardo represents a solid reality of Barolo, with 10 plots, divided into five different municipalities. Wines are produced here that can boast the Additional Geographical Mentions (MGAs) Lazzarito, with the "Preve" vineyard, Castelletto, Monvigliero, Mosconi, Fossati, Bricco San Pietro, Santa Maria, as well as the original Serra dei Turchi, where it all began. Mythical names for any good Barolo enthusiast who can appreciate the subtle differences that each terroir gives to the wines. Finally, the modern winery is located in the town of La Morra.
