    Côte du Jura Savagnin 2016
  • Savagnin is the varietal of excellence in the Jura region. A very particular grape variety that is appreciated by the many enthusiasts for its unmistakable roughness, never exaggerated but nevertheless clearly perceptible. Sometimes confused with Sauvignon Blanc, in the world Savagnin is best known for producing the famous "Vin Jaune," similar to Sherry, typical of eastern France. In this case, Marcel Cabelier offers it in a super-traditional version, achieved through fermentation and aging in open vats, where oxygen the yeasts interact, creating a kind of protective "flor." The result is an interesting white with a decidedly oxidative style, unique in its genre. Great for an out-of-the-box aperitif, it is still an interesting wine to offer during a seafood dinner. The important thing is that our guests know that we are serving them a specialty. Otherwise, they might be a little taken aback.

Jura is a small wine-growing region in eastern France, located in the Franche-Comté region. Less well known than other regions, wines are produced that are strongly characterized by the great variety of soils found there. Among the leading figures of this land is certainly Marcel Cabelier, who in the early 1990s, with a desire to have the quality of his products recognized, was one of the creators of the Crémant du Jura AOC, to which his wines belong. Today Marcel is no longer active in the winery but continues to work in the vineyards during the harvest.
