"Contessa di Radda" Toscana IGT 2019 - Geografico

In this case we can speak of a fine example of "Bordeaux blending", that is, a red wine produced from the basic grape varieties of the Bordeaux region of France, aged in small oak barrels. Contessa di Radda, Toscana IGT, is made from mostly Merlot grapes, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot added, both at 5%. All the grapes come from the municipalities of Gaiole and Radda in Chianti, in the province of Siena. After the harvest, the selected grapes are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks. The slow maceration process contributes to building the harmonious and complex character of this wine. After racking, the wine is transferred to cement tanks, where malolactic fermentation takes place. Only at that point, we proceed with the maturation phase in French barriques for about a year. The result is a wine with a full body, capable of maintaining a great elegance with a round and intense structure. Deep ruby red colour. Black berry fruit on the nose, accompanied by hints of liquorice and tobacco. Cabernet and Petit Verdot, albeit in small doses, add complexity to the blend, with spicy notes, herbaceous hints and a nice tannic structure.

Chianti Geografico is a beautiful story of passion and attachment to its territory. A cooperative born thanks to the initiative of 17 far-sighted winemakers, "Quelli del Geografico", who back in 1961 understood the importance of the extraordinary relationship between a wine and its production territory. From those initial seventeen, today it has reached as many as sixty. The numbers have grown but the passion for their origins and for the prince of the region's grape varieties, Sangiovese, which continues to be the absolute protagonist in the cellar, has not changed. Today, Chianti Geografico is part of the Piccini group, which bought it so as not to risk losing the memory of that group of good winemakers.
