    "Settebraccia" Salento IGP Rosso 2021
    • Settebraccia by Cantina Sampietrana is a warm, enveloping embrace that captures all the strength of Apulian land and the sweetness of its ripest fruits. We are in San Pietro Vernotico, in that flat strip of land connecting Brindisi to Lecce, where bush-trained vines resemble natural sculptures shaped by the wind. The name “Settebraccia” evokes an almost mythical image, linked to the structure of ancient vineyards and to the effort of man who, with artisanal dedication, continues to cultivate these deep red soils. In this corner of Apulia, the warm climate is tempered by Adriatic currents, allowing the grapes to develop extraordinary aromatic complexity without ever losing the freshness essential for balance. 80% Negroamaro and 20% Susumaniello: the former, King of Salento, provides structure, deep colour and that pleasantly bitter note on the finish, while Susumaniello plays the role of a refined supporting actor. This ancient grape, once nearly forgotten and now rediscovered, adds a burst of red fruit aromas and vibrant freshness that perfectly balances the power of its partner. The grapes are harvested and strictly selected by hand in the first ten days of October, left on the vine for partial drying. This time “sacrifice” concentrates sugars and aromas, making the wine incredibly rich. After fermentation, Settebraccia rests for around 8 months in oak barrels. This ageing does not aim to mask the fruit, but to smooth the edges and provide evolved notes that make it so harmonious. Thanks to the drying technique and oak ageing, Settebraccia has a good ageing potential. It can rest in the cellar for 5–7 years, evolving towards notes of leather and sweet tobacco, while always maintaining its characteristic smoothness. On the table, this red loves a challenge. The first suggestion is oven-roasted lamb with potatoes and rosemary, where the richness of the meat is embraced by the wine’s silky tannins. It also works beautifully with game or spicy ethnic dishes, where its roundness softens the heat of spices. The pairing will be simply perfect.

More than half a century of history! “We have always produced our wines directly in our winery, using only grapes from our own vineyards, largely Apulian bush vines over 50 years old, cared for with love and dedication.” Maximum authenticity, one might add, with a careful focus on what truly matters. Such as sustainable practices in the vineyard, including integrated or organic protection methods, and the use of alternative energy in the winery. All this within a strong social reality located in San Pietro Vernotico, in the province of Brindisi. The wines are the result of working with native grape varieties such as Negroamaro, Primitivo and Malvasia. Alongside them, the ancient Susumaniello, Aglianico, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Lambrusco, Fiano and Verdeca. As well as “international” varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay, which here in southern Italy produce wines of great pleasure and character.
