    "Sapiens" Cesanese del Piglio DOCG 2020
  • A little gem from central Italy. A DOCG wine produced only in the Lazio region with Cesanese grapes, an indigenous regional grape. A wine much loved by the locals that has had, in the past, unjustly, some difficulty in being appreciated outside the borders of the region. But with time, the improvement of the producers and, above all, thanks to the greater propensity of enthusiasts to go looking for the real peculiarities, today it is finally becoming a justly widespread product. Federici's Sapiens is an organic Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, obtained from a careful and thermo-conditioned processing and with a long maceration of the skins to allow the full extraction of the colour. In the glass, therefore, it is a beautiful, intense and brilliant ruby red. The nose is immediate and clean. It has a clear predominance of floral notes, among which violet is particularly recognizable, and juicy, ripe red fruit. The finish has hints of licorice and light balsamic notes. In the mouth it reveals a good power. It's full-bodied and rich. The tannins are well evident, though ripe, and contribute to making the wine the perfect companion to fine meat dinners.

    Lights, camera, action! This is the story of the Federici family and their love for the land of Zagarolo. We are a few kilometers from Rome, in the heart of the famous Castelli Romani. Zagarolo is located on a tuff hill. Wine has been produced here for thousands of years and it was here that Antonio Federici, in the 1960s, decided to set up his family business. Since then three generations have followed and many things have changed. 2001, just to mark a time on the calendar, is the year of the turning point. Since then, in addition to producing, the Federici family decided they wanted to have full control over the vineyards as well. To be sure that the desired quality would be brought to the cellar, without compromise. Starting with the typical vines of the territory: Trebbiano, Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia and Grechetto. Then there are also vineyards of Merlot, Montepulciano, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Franco Bernabei is the consultant oenologist of the company, who signs off on the wines and is a guarantee of constant quality over time.
