    Amalaya Blanco de Corte 2021
  • Bodega Amalaya offers this interesting white wine, produced in the Salta region of Argentina. Interesting, above all, for the unusual blend that makes it up. Torrontes for 85% and Riesling for the remainder. Torrontes, it should be remembered, is Argentina's most emblematic white grape variety, known for its intense floral aromas and lively acidity. Riesling, by contrast, is not as widespread in these latitudes but is native to Germany. Appreciated for its elegance, aromatic complexity and great capacity for aging. All grapes come from the San Isidro Estate, located at 1,800 meters above sea level, and are harvested by hand. In the winery, fermentation takes place at low temperatures and aging takes place exclusively in steel. The wine has a bright yellow-green color. Subtle and complex fruity aromas emerge on the nose, with dominant notes of green apple and floral nuances. In the mouth, however, the wine reveals a soft entry, while showing good body. The finish is very fresh, with nice mineral notes and marked acidity. Good already, this white can safely age in the cellar for at least 3 years, refining its characteristics to the fullest. Its freshness makes it ideal with Asian cuisine dishes, as well as pasta dishes and fresh cheeses.

Bodega Amalaya was born in 2010 in the heights of the Calchaqui Valley, in the Salta region of Argentina, on the initiative of Larissa and Christoph Ehrbar, successors of wine pioneer Donald Hess. We find ourselves in a unique area with vines grown at high altitude. A complicated environment-but worth it. In fact, thanks to the intensity of the sun, the grapes develop a thicker skin, giving the wines intense color and concentrated, unique flavors. Much cooler nights, on the other hand, give the grapes natural acidity and longer ripening times so that the tannins are naturally refined. Red grapes also develop more antioxidants at high altitudes, making them healthier, too! The Calchaqui Valley, after all, is simply magical. Sun, mountains, desert, pure air and black, star-filled night skies. What more could you want?
