    Valpolicella DOC "Nanfrè" 2021
  • Let us start with the curious name. Nanfrè, as we read on the producer's website, 'is a typical Veneto and knows how to make itself known, like Gianfranco, to whom that vineyard once belonged. Gianfranco, known as Gianfrè, to his friends Nanfrè'. Specifically, this is a Valpolicella DOC, the entry wine to the Tenuta Sant'Antonio line. The grapes, 70% Corvina and 70% Rondinella, come from the municipalities of Colognola ai Colli and Illasi, in the province of Verona. Vineyards are 10 - 15 years old, trained partly with Guyot and partly with the traditional Veronese Pergola. Harvested by hand in crates, vinification is simple but accurate, with alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature with selected yeasts for 8 - 10 days, followed by malolactic fermentation and a refinement period of 6 months in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Ruby red in colour, deep and intense, the nose is fruity, with notes of cherry and red fruit, floral and spicy nuances. In the mouth, however, it is pleasantly soft and fresh, fragrant and savoury, with moderate tannins. It is the everyday wine par excellence, perfect to accompany a wide range of dishes. From cured meats to pasta, rice and risotto dishes, to tasty main courses. For lovers of local food pairings, this Valpolicella should be tried with Venetian style liver, herring with polenta, pike in sauce and even with salt cod.

Tenuta Sant'Antonio was born in 1995 from the dream of four brothers. The Castagnedi family, winegrowers for generations, set out to make iconic wines, guided by research, experience and passion. Thus were born the fine products Valpolicella DOC and Soave DOC. Tenuta Sant'Antonio is located among the splendid slopes of Colognola ai Colli. The result of an ambitious entrepreneurial project, it is constantly evolving, continually pushing the boundaries of innovation to foster sustainability, excellence and international recognition. Today, the winery has 150 hectares of its own vineyards, 70% of which are located in Valpolicella, on the hill known as Monti Garbi, and 30% in the Soave area, on the prestigious Monte Ceriani hill. Annual production reaches around 1.8 million bottles, among all the references.
