A blend of 70% Nero di Troia and 30% Montepulciano, this rich red starts off with a dense nose of tobacco, violet, plums and cherries. It's plush and supple on the palate, but properly supported by polished tannins and tense acidity. The redfruit flavors are pure and pulsing, with spice and herbal tones integrating nicely on the lingering finish. ALEXANDER PEARTREE

Among the flagship wines of the Rivera winery, Falcone is an impressive Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva DOCG. A complex, elegant and austere wine, it is one of the best expressions of the typical Nero di Troia, which represents about 70% of the blend. This interesting native of the Castel del Monte area is able to give the wine structure, character and elegance. Other local varieties contribute to its harmoniousness. Matured in French oak for at least 14 months, 50% in barriques and 50% in 30 hectolitre barrels, it is aged for a further year in bottles before being released for sale. In the glass it has a beautiful, dense garnet red colour. Its bouquet is complex, with notes of ripe red fruit, leather, tobacco and spices. In the mouth it is rich, full, austere, long and balanced. A wine capable of aging, and well, for many years. Properly stored, it has no difficulty in waiting more than 10-15 years in the cellar. An important and complex wine, on the table it requires a certain type of combination. Excellent with game, it can also be paired with a well-aged cheese.
