We are in Alsace. German border. The wines here are often rich and intense, made from four basic grape varieties. The undisputed prince, however, is Riesling. The village of Rosacker, in particular, is considered by many to be the TOP in terms of quality for this grape variety. Grand Cru, characterized by limestone soils and moderate altitude, the vineyards enjoy special ventilation that promotes slow ripening of the grapes. Unique characteristics that, combined with low yields, allow Cave Vinicole de Hunawihr to create a wine with long aging potential. Intense straw yellow color with beautiful silver reflections, the nose reveals itself to be blunt, complex and very elegant. Initially it presents very fresh lemon notes and then, with time, sharp hints of beautiful minerality appear. In the mouth, it is lively and straight, with well-balanced freshness. Lemon, but also blood orange, pear and peach, are the dominant characteristics. The finish, however, is long and finely mineral, well supported by nice acidity.
The vineyards of this fine Alsatian cooperative are located in the municipalities of Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr. Cave Vinicole Hunawihr is characterized by its ability to vinify its grapes with the strictest respect for the richness and diversity of its terroirs, resulting in a full range of the great wines of Alsace, recognized and appreciated worldwide. From the simpler and more straightforward ones to "Les Grands Crus d'Alsace," at the top of the quality pyramid of Alsatian appellations. Wines that are born, under strict quality criteria, in 51 terroirs delimited according to geological and climatic criteria and that make up the mosaic of the Grands Crus d'Alsace. Founded in 1954, today the winery can count on more than 130 members who cultivate about 200 hectares of vineyards, distributed 80% in Hunawihr and the remaining 20% in neighboring villages. Average annual production is about 2 million bottles.
