    Umbria IGT Rosso 2021
  • Umbria Rosso IGT, this Perticaia wine represents the easy version of the Montefalco context. It is made from 70% Sangiovese, with 20% Merlot and Colorino making up the remaining 10%. In keeping with tradition for this beautiful Umbrian winery, the harvest is strictly by hand and takes place in the second half of September. The grapes, quickly brought to the cellar, are processed separately, so that different techniques can be adapted to the different varieties. Vinification in steel and subsequent ageing for 6 months before bottling. The result is a very pleasant red, characterised by a beautiful, bright colour. On the nose, pleasant notes of red fruit, accompanied by a pleasant touch of lavender. In the mouth, it is well balanced and taut, with a long, very pleasant finish. A wine for the whole meal, it goes well with traditional hors d'oeuvres. Excellent with cured meats and with first courses of Umbrian and Mediterranean cuisine in general. Good today, it is a wine with discrete potential for evolution in the bottle. Well stored, it can continue its maturation period for 2 to 3 years.

    Perticaia, in the archaic language of Umbria, is the word by which the plough was called, probably the tool that more than any other symbolises the transition from sheep farming to agriculture. We find ourselves among hillsides cultivated with vineyards and olive groves, dotted with towers, villages and medieval castles. Modern vineyards, as modern is the wine cellar, in perfect balance with the surrounding environment, taking care to maintain the appearance of the old farms in the area. Today, Perticaia boasts some fifty hectares of vineyards. Of these, more than ten are in Sagrantino. The land, all hilly, is set on a slight slope, at an altitude of between 320 and 350 metres above sea level, exposed mainly to the south, south-west. Perticaia is an organic estate, a model for the territory, and capable of producing wines of great expressiveness and elegance.
