Marisa Cuomo, Via Giambattista Lama, 16/18 - 84010 San Michele (SA)
Ravello is known as the “city of music”. A village overlooking the Amalfi Coast from a privileged position, enchanting artists and nobles for centuries. Marisa Cuomo’s winery is literally carved into the rock and preserves the secrets of a land where the climate is constantly tempered by sea breezes. The vines grow on extremely steep terraces, kissed by the sun and protected by the Lattari Mountains, creating a perfect microclimate that allows the grapes to ripen slowly and develop an extraordinary aromatic concentration. We are within the Costa d’Amalfi DOC, and here the Ravello subzone represents the jewel of this area, capable of producing wines that taste of sea, Mediterranean scrub and ancient history. Piedirosso, locally called “pere e’ palummo”, makes up 70%, with Aglianico covering the remaining 30%, the latter bringing structure, body and that tannic backbone that allows the wine to age gracefully. Piedirosso, on the other hand, adds freshness, agility and aromas of red fruits that make each sip smooth and never tiring. After an intense maceration of about twenty days, the wine matures for twelve months in new French oak barriques, where it softens and gains complexity. The vineyards are located at altitudes ranging from 100 to 500 metres, trained with the pergola system, essential to protect the grapes from the intense summer sun of the Amalfi Coast. Deep, bright ruby red with garnet reflections; on the nose it reveals a complex bouquet where blackberry and blueberry intertwine with notes of liquorice, cocoa and a touch of sweet spices. On the palate it is warm, soft and enveloping, with silky tannins that give way to an incredibly persistent finish. A wine that is not afraid of ageing. Already enjoyable today, it can patiently wait in the cellar for 10 to 15 years. Its natural freshness will keep it vibrant and balanced over time.
