But how fascinating is it to drink a wine whose name is difficult to pronounce? And in this case, the difficulties are objective. Grüner Veltliner is certainly not one of the usual international grape varieties that we are used to seeing on the market. Of Austrian origin, Veltliner is now certain to derive from a chance (and fortuitous) cross between Traminer and St. Georgenrebe from Burgenland. The word Grüner, in particular, indicates the 'green' variety of the vine, which is now the only one present in the warmer areas of the Valle Isarco. What Manni Nössing offers here is a decidedly typical version. Alto Adige DOC, this white wine is made from carefully selected, hand-picked grapes. Almost the entire mass, about 95%, is processed in stainless steel, while a small part matures in oak barrels, acquiring greater complexity. The result is a pleasantly aromatic and citrusy wine with a complex bouquet reminiscent of medicinal herbs and spices. Very well balanced, this fresh white wine is perfect as an aperitif. Excellent with classic mountain cured meats, it also has the right character to accompany white meats or tasty fish.
Manni Nössing is an idealistic and stubborn winegrower. His family owns a farm called 'Hoandlhof', beautifully positioned on a hill above the city of Bressanone. A proudly independent winemaker, Manni Nössing planted his vineyard in 1999 and immediately set out to establish himself as a characterful, independent winemaker with a strong identity. Nicknamed "the rebel", he launched his first Kerner in 2003 and was immediately rewarded by the strictest wine critics. Today, he has a vineyard area of around six hectares, planted with Sylvaner, Riesling, Veltliner, Müller Thurgau and (of course) his world-famous Kerner.
