Many of Italy's best Pinot Noirs come from that handkerchief of land to the south of Lombardy. The Oltrepò pavese, to be precise, with its rolling hills and cool but not too cool climate, is a land suited for the production of the noble Burgundy grape. Here it is processed in various ways, in red or white, still or sparkling. And in most cases what is obtained is a product of the highest quality, which is offered on the market at a decidedly advantageous price. This is the case, for example, of this Casa dei Giganti, Pinot Nero DOC obtained from grapes grown on the Santa Giulietta estate in the province of Pavia. Carefully vinified in steel followed by refinement in the bottle, this red has a beautiful ruby red colour, very typical for the variety. Also typical are the scents that are clearly perceived on the nose, with notes of undergrowth, such as small fruits, blackcurrants and ripe blackberries. In the mouth, on the other hand, it is elegant, with good body, and is a wine characterised by great versatility. That is, it adapts to various pairings, even unusual ones. It could, for example, satisfactorily accompany sea fish such as amberjack or sea bass, but also a board of cheeses that are not too mature.
