Imbottigliato all'origine dalla Cantina Colpetrone ia Ponte La Mandria, 8/1, 06035 Marcellano PG
Located in Gualdo Cattaneo, in the heart of the ‘Terre dell'Olio e del Sagrantino’ (Land of Oil and Sagrantino) surrounding Montefalco, the Còlpetrone estate cultivates its vineyards between 250 and 400 metres above sea level, on soil that was once the seabed. Here, the temperature range between hot days and cool nights helps to preserve the aromas and natural acidity of the grapes, while the breeze blowing up from the Tiber dries the grapes after summer storms, naturally reducing the risk of mould. The view stretches from the Sibillini Mountains to Terminillo: a natural amphitheatre that gives the wines their unmistakable minerality and liveliness. Umbria IGT, this “mention” allows for different varieties of light-coloured grapes, provided that the grapes come from the entire region. Specifically, Còlpetrone combines Grechetto with a small amount of Chardonnay, enhancing the aromatic complexity without distorting the Umbrian identity. The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September, gently pressed and fermented in steel. The wine then rests for three months on the fine lees, with frequent stirring to increase its creaminess on the palate. In the glass, it is bright straw yellow. The nose releases notes of acacia flowers, hawthorn and small white fruits, with hints of hazelnut typical of Grechetto. The palate is fresh, savoury and smooth; the brief ageing on the lees gives it softness without losing its mineral length. It finishes with a slight hint of bitter almond that invites you to take another sip. Versatile at the table, it is perfect with lake appetisers, raw fish, first courses with seasonal vegetables, roasted white meats and medium-aged Umbrian cheeses.
Tenute del Cerro embodies a great winemaking dream, which began in 1978 with the acquisition of Fattoria del Cerro in Acquaviva di Montepulciano and Tenuta di Montecorona in Umbria, followed by the addition of other historic estates such as La Poderina in Montalcino, Còlpetrone in the heart of Montefalco, and Monterufoli in the Pisan hills. Today, the group owns almost 5,000 hectares, of which about 300 are vineyards. The result of continuous investment in precision viticulture and technological wineries, the company embraces agriculture 4.0 and sustainability models, guided by high-level management and drawing on the expertise of renowned oenologists such as Riccardo Cotarella. The beating heart of the company is Fattoria del Cerro, the largest private estate within the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG appellation, with 93 hectares registered in the register. Since 2002, the group has been part of the Japanese multinational Saiwa – now Mitsubishi – through its Italian subsidiary UnipolSai. This link has brought a significant boost in terms of innovation and investment, without altering the agricultural and territorial soul of the estates. An interesting fact: in the heart of the Fattoria del Cerro there is an ancient Etruscan sluice gate, which gives its name to one of the company's most iconic labels. A symbol of deep roots and a thousand-year-old bond with the territory.
