Abruzzo Cococciola DOP Superiore Ferzo. Write this name down because if you try it now, you won't be able to do without it later. Because the Cococciola, a rare grape variety native to Abruzzo, reaches its maximum splendour in particular in the Chieti area. The one proposed here by Codice Citra, for example, is a wine with a delicate taste, harmonious and sapid but with a wide and enveloping bouquet. Initially floral, with notes of white flowers and acacia, but also balsamic hints of sage. Then it's citrusy and even recalls a memory of exotic fruit. Let's put it on the table if the menu includes tasty fish or white meat dishes. Excellent as an aperitif It certainly does not lack versatility.
Codice Citra represents the largest community of winemakers in Abruzzo, bringing together 3,000 families united by their respect for nature. The headquarters, the impressive winery, is located in Ortona, in the province of Chieti. A few kilometres separate it from the sea. A few more from the foothills of the Apennines. There's another sea in between. It is the one represented by the many vineyards that neatly divide the surrounding countryside. Suffice it to say that there are about 6,000 hectares of vineyards belonging to Citra and that the winery has two bottling lines capable of producing 20,000 bottles of wine per hour. But these numbers should not scare you. Although big, and Codice Citra really is, this winery has never lost the taste (and pleasure) of making good wines. Deeply tied to their home territory, they have been a point of reference for the region for 45 years.
