Gallura is a corner of Sardinia where the Mistral wind cleanses the air and granite shapes a landscape of rare and untamed beauty. Here, just a few minutes from the crystal-clear waters of the Costa Smeralda and at the gateway to Arzachena, lies Vigne Surrau. This winery was not born from generations of farming tradition but from a contemporary vision. In the early 2000s, the Demuro family – well-known local entrepreneurs – decided to breathe new life into an enchanting valley rich in natural springs, once linked to the culture of the historic Gallurese “stazzi”. What began as an emotional bond with their homeland evolved into an innovative wine project that now extends across approximately 70 hectares divided into different vineyard plots. Driving along the roads connecting Arzachena and Porto Cervo, it is impossible not to notice the winery. The Vigne Surrau estate is a true architectural masterpiece: an elegant combination of wood, glass and local stone blending seamlessly into the surrounding hills. Designed according to sustainability and energy-efficiency principles, it is not only a technologically advanced production facility but also a cultural space. Between stainless-steel tanks and the underground barrel cellar, visitors can find art exhibitions, photography displays and conferences. The estate vineyards are rooted in sandy soils formed by the millennia-long decomposition of granite. This unique soil, together with strong day-to-night temperature variations and sea breezes carrying salt inland, gives the grapes a freshness and minerality that are impossible to replicate elsewhere.
