The Tenuta Garetto 2017 Barbera d'Asti Rosina is a simple and stripped-down wine made only in stainless steel in order to keep the aromas bright and fragrant. This no-fuss Barbera shows cherry, black currant, almond and scorched earth. It ends with a sour or bitter note that sets it up for a pairing with a platter of cheese wedges.
There’s a complex, dark-herb and ash undertone to this Barbera, which also suggests fresh blackberries and lavender. Medium-bodied and restrained on the palate with silky tannins and soft fruit. Sweet-and-sour finish. Drink now.
It is called Rosina and it is a very pleasant Barbera d'Asti proposed by Tenuta Garetto. A simple and immediate wine produced with grapes harvested from the company's youngest vineyards. A Barbera that is particularly drinkable, obtained without being aged in wood but with a simple period of refinement in an inert container. The result is a wine characterized by an intense and lively ruby red colour. The nose has fresh and fragrant notes of red fruit, with pleasantly vegetal hints. In the mouth, then, it reveals a fresh wine, well supported by a vibrant acidity, very typical for the variety. Overall, however, the wine is well balanced and has a pleasantly vinous finish.
Tenuta Garetto is a beautiful winery, acquired by the Gagliardo Family in 2017. Located in Agliano Terme, a region that is not only beautiful from a landscape point of view, with hills that follow one another as far as the eye can see, but also considered a real gem for the production of Barbera. It is no coincidence that it is located within the new Nizza DOCG denomination, which is to all intents and purposes the spearhead of Barbera in Italy. The estate can now count on old vines, planted between 1935 and 1950, as well as more recent plantings.
