This Fuck You, white DO Valencia, by Neleman seems to have a strong personality and character, just like its name! But one should not be intimidated by appearances. The grapes, Verdil, Sauvignon, Viognier and Chardonnay, are harvested by hand and immediately chilled for 15 days at -5°C. This blend (and this technique) gives the finished wine a fabulous ripe white fruit note and balanced acidity. In addition, a partial fermentation in oak barrels gives it an extra aroma of toast and spice, and a velvety finish. But that is not enough. This, in fact, is also a certified organic and vegan wine, so it is good for the palate... and the conscience. Perfect as an aperitif, it can accompany (with class) delicate fish dishes. To be uncorked the next time we propose a barbecue with friends. A fantastic choice!
'Good wine to save the world'. The statement that those at Neleman Organic Vineyard make on the home page of their website is a strong one. The kind that stands out. But let us proceed in order. Casas del Rey is a small village located in one of the highest areas of Valencia, in the heart of the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park. During the last century, the main income of its (few) inhabitants came from the cooperative winery they created to pool the grapes from their vineyards and produce their own wines. This winery, called 'Cristo Rey', was founded in 1961, with a capacity of only 11,000 hectolitres. But, due to the declining population, it stopped operating a few years ago. Recently, Derrick Neleman acquired it and officially transformed it into Bodegas Neleman, bringing new energy to the small village. Mainly indigenous Spanish varieties are cultivated, such as Verdil, Tardana, Bobal, Monastrell, Marselan, Tempranillo or Garnacha. Although traditional methods are used, the resulting wines are modern, full of balance, richness and freshness. Neleman wines are strictly organic, produced without the use of pesticides or additives. Because... taking care of nature not only makes for good wines today, but also for eternity!
