Sirica is the name of a grape discovered by Feudi di San Gregorio and registered by them as its own variety. It is genetically linked to Syrah, Teroldego and/or Refosco. The 2015 Sirica reveals dark ruby color saturation with garnet and purple highlights at the rim. The nose is warm and broad with dark fruit, spice, crushed black pepper and savory leather. The wine offers soft tannins and loads of generous richness. Just like Syrah, Sirica seems to love the warm vintages, like 2015. This is a full and complete red wine that I recommend with great pleasure.
Aromas of black licorice, tar and blueberry. Full body, soft and silky tannins. Very polished and fine. Drink now.
Made from the native Sirica grape, this young red opens with wild berry and black pepper aromas. The smooth, vibrant palate offers a great combination of fruit and spice, doling out juicy Morello cherry, crushed raspberry and clove flavors, bolstered by polished tannins. Drink through 2024. Sirica is not only the name of this wine proposed by Feudi di San Gregorio. Sirica is also the name of the grape variety used to produce it in purity. An autochthonous vine, obviously, that represents a real oenological gem. Its origins are ancient, probably Greek, and it seemed to have completely disappeared from Campania and southern Italy. Then a few years ago, in Taurasi, four ancient plants were discovered that had resisted for who knows how many decades. It was a short step from that discovery to an interesting project, since this vine is probably an ancient relative of the famous Aglianico. The one offered here by Feudi is a red that is a lovely ruby colour in the glass. The nose is vinous, with clear hints of red fruit and a hint of fresh vegetable. The mouthfeel is fresh and smooth, with a hint of spice and a pleasant structure. Sweet tannins, not astringent, and a nice persistence of taste and smell conclude the picture. A wine like this must be tasted without ifs and buts. If only to understand where we started from to arrive at the great reds of today.
There is a subtle fil-rouge that unites everything that has been done at Feudi di San Gregorio since its inception in 1986. It is the desire to make the most of the priceless heritage of indigenous grape varieties of Campania tradition. Starting with Greco, Fiano and Aglianico, the true regional flag bearers. Today the company can count on a total of 300 hectares of vineyards, divided into over 800 plots that differ in altitude, exposure and slopes. A marvellous natural puzzle that perfectly expresses the biodiversity of the territory and is able to give life to extraordinary cru. It is currently one of the leading wineries in Southern Italy, with exports covering more than 50 countries worldwide. The experience gained over the years has therefore led the Capaldo family, who have always been the mind and soul of the company, to decide to explore the winemaking potential of other regions of Italy. This is how the "Tenute Capaldo" project was born, which includes a complex of wineries ranging from DUBL, also from Campania, to Campo alle Comete in Tuscany, passing through Basilisco, an organic winery in Vulture, Ognissole, a biodynamic winery in Puglia, Sirch, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and finally FedeGraziani, a small jewel on the slopes of Etna. They all share the same values: to produce wines of excellent quality while respecting their territory.
