    Verdeca Puglia IGP 2021
  • The name Verdeca refers to the colour of the grapes that ripen in August, under a blue sky and a sun that dazzles at these latitudes. It produces a wine loved by wine lovers. A product of the most traditional Apulia that Cantele interprets in a classic way. Puglia IGT, the grapes used in this case come from the beautiful Valle d'Itria. Harvested in the second half of September, they ferment and mature in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The result is a fresh and pleasant wine, good from the first months after release. Straw yellow with delicate greenish reflections, the nose reveals intense and persistent aromas. Predominantly fruity, it has clear hints of citrus, pear and mandarin. Then floral hints, with hawthorn and acacia flowers. On the finish, there is also a delicate note of fern and freshly cut grass. In the mouth it is intense, with a clear sensation of freshness and a light aromatic note. Very persistent, it also reveals a surprising complexity. Fabulous as an aperitif, it is the right wine to brighten up a sushi evening.

A story in reverse. And all the more fascinating for that. We are talking about Cantele, one of Puglia's best-loved and most appreciated wineries, by enthusiasts and professionals alike, in every corner of the world. A story in reverse since its beginnings when, in 1950, Giovanni Battista Cantele, from Pramaggiore in the Veneto region, and his wife Teresa Manara, from Imola in Romagna, decided to move from northern Italy to Puglia, in the province of Lecce. The founder of the family, it must be said, was already involved in the bulk wine market. The second path backwards is linked to the birth of the company. We are in 1979 and, in this case, the decision is to start with the marketing of bottled wines only, and then, over time, move up through all the stages of the production chain. The first harvest, in fact, dates back to 1992 and in 1999 the winery was created. Since then, the Cantele family's activities have continued unabated, until 2002, when the new winery was created in Guagnano, in the heart of the Salice Salentino DOC area. Today, the company is well established in the main foreign markets as well as at home, and in particular is among the most appreciated wineries in its region.
