Villa Russiz

Villa Russiz, heart and soul of the Collio in the Gorizia area. We are in Capriva del Friuli, in a land where the hills seem perfectly shaped to welcome the vine. Here, Villa Russiz tells an extraordinary story that has lasted for over 150 years. It all began in 1868, thanks to an encounter that feels straight out of a novel: the meeting between the French nobleman Theodore de La Tour and the Austrian Elvine Ritter von Zahony. It was Theodore, with his agronomic expertise and a remarkably forward-thinking vision for the time, who realised the immense potential of these hills. And it was also he who introduced French grape varieties that we now consider “at home” in the Collio, revolutionising local viticulture. After her husband’s death, the countess decided to transform the estate into a foundation to support children in need, creating an institution that is still active today and sustained precisely by wine sales. Buying a bottle of Villa Russiz is therefore not just a pleasure for the palate, but also a gesture that concretely supports a humanitarian mission. In the vineyard, work is carried out with deep respect for the environment, while in the cellar the goal is purity. There is no pursuit of artifice, but of elegance. The estate’s white wines are renowned for their longevity and structure: from Sauvignon to Friulano, through to Pinot Bianco, every sip tells the story of the freshness of the Friulian hills.
