A family Champagne. Maison Harlin, Père & Fils, is an essential stop in the heart of the Marne Valley. We are in Mareuil-le-Port, where everything began with Guy Harlin, later joined by his son Dominique. Today, however, it is the grandsons, Maxime and Guillaume, who hold the reins of the Maison. This passing of the torch was not simply a bureaucratic handover, but a true stylistic evolution. The two brothers brought a breath of fresh air, embracing an almost “craft” approach in the noblest sense of the word. For them, making wine means first and foremost taking care of the vine and its ecosystem. The estate vineyard extends across around 9.5 hectares and benefits from a particularly privileged geographical position. The vines are spread across strategic locations: not only in Mareuil-le-Port, but also in the prestigious terroirs of Épernay and Tours-sur-Marne, the latter classified as Grand Cru. This diversity allows the Harlin family to work with the three king grape varieties of the region, creating blends that are balanced and never predictable. In the vineyard, the philosophy is crystal clear: the health of the vines is the absolute priority. It is no coincidence that the estate has obtained both HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) certifications, eliminating insecticides, using grass cover between the rows to encourage biodiversity, and planting clover to naturally nourish the soil. In the cellar, this care continues with the patience of another era. The cuvées rest on their lees for at least three years, while the most prestigious reserve wines may age for up to ten years before finally being released. Some wines ferment in oak, gaining the complexity and softness that only time and small wooden barrels can provide.
