Located along the picturesque Route des Grands Vins, which runs along the Gironde estuary between the villages of Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, Château du Glana stands opposite the renowned Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, in the heart of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation. This region boasts a concentration of 90% Grands Crus Classés, proof of the excellence of the local terroir. The history of Château du Glana began in 1870, when the architect Nadeau of Blaye designed the elegant residence on behalf of Monsieur Cayx. The building, characterised by a harmonious blend of white limestone and red brick, reflects the architectural style of the period. Initially, the property comprised a vineyard of only 5 hectares, created through the acquisition of parcels belonging to the nearby Château Saint-Pierre. Over the years, several owners succeeded one another until 1961, when Gabriel Meffre, a well-known nurseryman from Vaucluse, bought the estate and, thanks to subsequent acquisitions of plots from Château Lagrange, expanded the vineyard to 43 hectares. Today, Château du Glana is managed by Jean-Paul Meffre and his sons, Ludovic and Julien, who share the ambition of fully exploiting the property's potential. The Château du Glana vineyard, covering 59.5 hectares, almost all of which are contiguous, is planted with vines with an average age of around 25 years.
