"Molino a Vento" Nerello Mascalese IGP 2019 - Tenute Orestiadi

This interesting Nerello Mascalese proposed by Tenute Orestiadi is called Molino a Vento. A very special wine, starting with its origin. In fact, despite being produced from one grape variety, Nerello, which most enthusiasts associate directly with the east coast of the island and its volcano, this red wine is the product of vineyards grown on the sandy soils of western Sicily. Harvested at full phenolic maturity, that is, when the aromas and colours have fully developed in the grapes, this Nerello Mascalese undergoes a maceration of about two weeks at controlled temperature with daily pumping over. Then, after racking, it is aged in steel and, only before bottling, it is quickly put into wood for a maximum period of 4 months. In the glass it is a beautiful garnet-like, ruby red colour. The nose reveals intense aromas, with clear notes of berries and spices. In the mouth, finally, it is elegant, with a good structure and an excellent overall harmony between all its parts.

Tenute Orestiadi was founded in 2008. Located in Sicily. And to be precise in that enchanted corner marked by a long and troubled history as the Valle del Belice. Here in 1968 a terrible earthquake devastated everything, razing centuries of civilization and dreams to the ground. From the ashes of that terrible episode, in Gibellina, in a corner of Sicily where viticulture meets art, the Orestiadi Estates are found. A mosaic of vineyards of great beauty characterized by completely different terroirs, with rich and varied characteristics. Here the best native varieties of the island grow and thrive, enhanced by careful processing, to bring to the main world markets all the good things of Sicily. In 2018, thanks to a close sharing of values, and the same love for the territory, a collaboration with La Gelsomina, an interesting reality on Etna, began.
