"Erse" Etna Bianco DOC 2021 - Tenuta di Fessina

This time we are in one of Italy's most fascinating territories. In Sicily, at the foot of the volcano. It is here that Tenuta di Fessina produces its Erse, Etna DOC Bianco, which comes from the careful processing of Carricante grapes vinified in steel. With the Carricante, then, the company has also chosen to add a small percentage of native Etnean grapes, such as Minnella and Catarratto, cultivated in this case in the Rovittello vineyards. The result? It is here to surprise. A wine with great drinkability and a clear mineral imprint, fresh and young. As mentioned, the vinification of Erse takes place exclusively in steel, followed by a further 6 months in the bottle. The wine has a beautiful straw yellow colour with green reflections. The nose has notes of cedar peel, broom, sage, wild herbs and iodine, while the palate appreciates the fine savouriness and acidity typical of Carricante, accompanied by a pleasant integration of the aromatic notes given by Minnella and Catarratto. A wine with an intense and persistent aroma, it has a savoury finish that invites you to drink it. Excellent with fish dishes, salads and vegetables.

Let us start by saying that Tenuta di Fessina is today considered by many experts as a point of reference for the Etna area and more generally for the new Sicilian viticulture. It is a modern, quality-oriented company capable of offering, vintage after vintage, wines with a unique and distinctive character. We are, as will be clear by now, at the foot of Mount Etna, in Sicily. A land rich in contrasts and with great oenological potential. Its founder, Silvia Maestrelli, a pioneer among the producers who have given new impetus to oenology on Etna, says of herself that she was 'motivated by love for this land and a passion for wine'. Fortunately, one might say. In 2007, after lengthy negotiations with the former owners of the land, Tenuta di Fessina was officially established, a project that combines the sensitivity of a 'feminine' oenological vision with the technical ability of consultants and collaborators to create a high-level production reality. The production, as is normal, focuses mainly on the interesting indigenous varieties of the volcano, such as Nerello Mascalese and Carricante, with some interesting additions of international varieties such as Chardonnay and Syrah. Its secret? Organic farming and maniacal attention to the different stages of vinification and ageing of the wines.
