"Manzoni" Bianco Montello Colli Asolani DOC 2020 - Serafini & Vidotto

The Treviso wine tradition of yesterday, with the taste of today. This is how this white wine proposed by Serafini and Vidotto is described. It comes, in fact, from a pure processing of Manzoni grapes and is labelled Montello Colli Asolani DOC. An autochthonous vine par excellence, unique and eclectic, interpreted in this case with an elegant style. A curiosity. Manzoni is a vine created by a researcher, Prof. Luigi Manzoni, in 1930 at the Istituto Enologico Cerletti in Conegliano. It is a cross between Riesling and Pinot Bianco. Its full name also includes the acronym 6.0.13, which indicates the exact position, in the vineyard, of the original plant: the 13th vineyard of the 6th row. Vinified in stainless steel, this white wine appears in the glass with a beautiful, luminous, straw-yellow colour. On the nose it is easy to distinguish scents reminiscent of exotic fruit, citrus fruits, yellow apple and white peach. Then floral and vegetable nuances. In the mouth, however, you discover a pleasantly fresh and mineral wine. Fine and elegant. An aperitif wine par excellence, it is fabulous paired with a simple slice of "sweet" Parma ham. On the table, on the other hand, it can be satisfyingly served with a fine plate of spaghetti allo scoglio or with risotto alla marinara.

The story of Serafini e Vidotto began in 1985, the first time the current owners of the company saw the green hills of the Montello-Colli Asolani DOC area. We are in the heart of the Veneto region, right in the centre of it all. Here, to the north-west of the city of Treviso, lies the first foothills. There were few vineyards then. But there was the inspiration that only a beautiful place can give. The hills, the woods, the valley, the banks. The ideal place to give life to one's own business. First harvest 1986. And since then little has changed in the winery: finesse, cleanliness, identity and character. Today the winery is proudly environmentally friendly. For us," reads the company website, "sustainability has become ethical. There is no other way of making wine". Thanks to the collaboration with researchers from various universities, today for Serafini and Vidotto "green" is first and foremost a way of thinking. For more than twenty years, for example, fertilisation has been carried out strictly with farm compost, mature and controlled manure or, alternatively, with certified organic fertilisers. There is no weeding, but laborious hoeing by hand, and above all different and targeted defence strategies, site by site. The harvest is, of course, strictly manual, as is the selection of the grapes before beginning the slow transformation process. All this is done to limit all intervention in the cellar as much as possible, and to succeed in reducing the use of sulphur dioxide to below 50% of the legal limits.

  • Sensations It has a straw-yellow hue with bright, subtle golden-light flashes. It is crystal clear and of excellent consistency. The first nose is intensely fruity and floral, with a broad opening of exotic fruit, citrus and white flowers. Initially and immediately green apple, pineapple, kiwi, passion fruit, with pleasant notes of elderflower. Then, the wine "opens up" to vegetal hints of mint, sage and geranium leaves. Infi ne the pleasant mineral notes of flint and sand washed by the sea. In the mouth, the attack is rich and pleasantly balanced on pleasantly fresh and delicately salty perceptions, with a soft and warm base: the excellent structure accompanies and holds the taste-olfactory notes in long persistence with a prolonged finish that is still fresh and intensely fruity.
