Marlborough Chardonnay 2019 - Greywacke

A unique and unrepeatable climate. A great grape variety such as Chardonnay, which expresses different characteristics in every part of the world. These are the main ingredients of this white wine proposed by Greywacke, produced in the Marlborough area. Most of the vineyards are in the lower reaches of the Brancott Valley and Fairhall, with the rest of the grapes coming from Renwick and Rapaura. Gravelly, clay and alluvial soils that contain high percentages of the distinctive Greywacke stones. Harvested by hand, the wine is made whole cluster, with very soft pressing cycles and a short contact with the skins. The must thus obtained is racked into French oak barrels where it undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Another peculiarity is that, at the end of the alcoholic fermentation, this Chardonnay also undergoes the so-called malolactic conversion. Straw yellow in colour, the nose reveals rich fruity scents of pineapple, pink grapefruit and ripe apple. Then hints of toasted hazelnut and vanilla. In the mouth it is enveloping, while maintaining a nice freshness and a subtle mineral touch. With a very long finish, this wine requires an intense pairing in terms of flavour. Excellent with both tasty, fatty fish and white meat.

Kevin Judd is one of the legendary names of the Marlborough area. In fact, his own life path is strongly connected to the image of New Zealand wine. Born in England but raised in Australia, he moved to New Zealand in 1983 to pursue his dream of becoming a famous winemaker. He achieved his goal perfectly, considering that he was one of the founders of Cloudy Bay, personally overseeing the first 25 vintages of what is now considered one of the world's most amazing wineries. In 2009, he founded his own company, Greywacke, named after the greyish sandstones found in many places in New Zealand.
