"Hundred Sixty Two" Alta Langa DOCG - Fontanafredda

Dedicated to Fontanafredda's 163rd anniversary, Hundred Sixty-Three is a pure Pinot Noir bubbly from the vineyards of Santo Stefano Belbo, Castino, Borgomale and Lequio Berria. Here, thanks to the altitude, the grapes ripen slowly and when they are harvested they are rich in aromas and scents. From this exceptional raw material, Fontanafredda obtains a high-class sparkling wine that matures on the lees in the bottle for at least 9 years. A wait that is justified at first taste. In the glass, in fact, you discover a wine characterized by a beautiful golden yellow colour, with a fine and persistent perlage. The nose reveals scents of great intensity and complexity, reminiscent of wild flowers and spices, dried fruit and bread crust. In the mouth the Pinot Noir makes itself known, thanks to a well-managed structure and power. A wine made to give satisfaction at the table. Perfect as an aperitif, it can also be paired with fish and meat dishes.

Founded by the first King of Italy in 1858. This inscription on the Fontanafredda website is enough to give a sense of a company that to define as "historic" is almost belittling. Fontanafredda was born from a love story. It was in fact given by Vittorio Emanuele II to his beloved Rosa Vercellana, the famous "bella Rosina". Beyond this ante litteram gossip, however, Fontanafredda has always been a point of reference for regional and Italian viticulture in general. In fact, many curious records belong to this winery. The first vineyard in Barolo was purchased in 1866 and the first wine was made in 1870. In 1886 Fontanafredda's Barolo wines reached America, and in 1887 the first concrete tanks in Europe were built. Finally, in 1959, the first classic method sparkling wine was produced, the precursor of Alta Langa DOCG. The last step in the glorious history of this winery, after its acquisition by Oscar Farinetti and Luca Baffigo, was in 2018. Since that year the company has been producing certified organic wines. Today the company, which exports to more than 60 countries around the world, can count on a complex of 120 hectares of vineyards. And in its cellars rest more than 2.5 million bottles of Barolo waiting to be released to market. Long live... Fontanafredda!
