Passerina Abruzzo Superiore DOP Ferzo 2019 - Codice Citra

Of the autochthonous vines, i.e. the typical vines, of central Italy, one in particular has reached truly remarkable levels of popularity in recent years. It is the Passerina that finds it perfect home in the Abruzzo region, and in particular in the areas that fall within the so-called Terre di Chieti. Just the right mix of sun, heat, proximity to the sea and soils. All the pieces of the puzzle that make up the ideal "terroir" for this vine all come together in these parts. Ideal in combination with fish dishes and as an aperitif, it is the bottle to uncork if you plan to make extensive use of raw fish. In particular this Passerina DOP Superiore Ferzo proposed by Codice Citra. A fresh and fragrant white wine, straw yellow in colour with golden highlights. In the mouth it enhances all the goodness previously perceived, thanks also to a remarkable persistence.

Codice Citra represents the largest community of winemakers in Abruzzo, bringing together 3,000 families united by their respect for nature. The headquarters, the impressive winery, is located in Ortona, in the province of Chieti. A few kilometres separate it from the sea. A few more from the foothills of the Apennines. There's another sea in between. It is the one represented by the many vineyards that neatly divide the surrounding countryside. Suffice it to say that there are about 6,000 hectares of vineyards belonging to Citra and that the winery has two bottling lines capable of producing 20,000 bottles of wine per hour. But these numbers should not scare you. Although big, and Codice Citra really is, this winery has never lost the taste (and pleasure) of making good wines. Deeply tied to their home territory, they have been a point of reference for the region for 45 years.
