Bisanzio, Montepulciano DOP by Codice Citra, is a fine example of the potential of Montepulciano. A grape variety rich in character, perfect for creating wines destined for long ageing, but which is also capable of expressing itself at its best in products, like this one, created to be enjoyed from a young age. Vinification is traditional, with a long maceration of the skins at a controlled temperature. After a brief rest in steel tanks, it is passed into wooden barrels for refinement, that are capable of exalting its organoleptic characteristics. Intense ruby red colour, the nose has an elegant bouquet, in which hints of black cherry and berries are combined with notes of black pepper, cocoa and balsamic aromas. In the mouth it reveals itself to be a full, harmonious wine, with a nice tannin, typical for the Montepulciano grape. The finish is long and pleasant.
Codice Citra represents the largest community of winemakers in Abruzzo, bringing together 3,000 families united by their respect for nature. The headquarters, the impressive winery, is located in Ortona, in the province of Chieti. A few kilometres separate it from the sea. A few more from the foothills of the Apennines. There's another sea in between. It is the one represented by the many vineyards that neatly divide the surrounding countryside. Suffice it to say that there are about 6,000 hectares of vineyards belonging to Citra and that the winery has two bottling lines capable of producing 20,000 bottles of wine per hour. But these numbers should not scare you. Although big, and Codice Citra really is, this winery has never lost the taste (and pleasure) of making good wines. Deeply tied to their home territory, they have been a point of reference for the region for 45 years.
