"Assaje" Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Rosso 2019 - Capichera

The aim of producing red wines to match its whites has led Capichera to select over the years the best-known indigenous black grape varieties of Sardinia. Thus Assajé was born, a successful blend of those typical Sardinian grape varieties to which a small percentage of Syrah was added. It was 1997 and that wine represents the realisation of a dream. An elegant and fragrant wine, it hides power, structure and above all a clear identity in a pleasant sip. IGT Isola dei Nuraghi, all the grapes used for this red wine come from our own vineyards. Vineyards of various ages, trained with the classic spurred cordon but also with the traditional bush system, capable of producing high quality grapes, in exchange for a decidedly high level of commitment in the vineyard. The harvest takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October. After a transformation in steel tanks, the wine matures partly in cement tanks. Assajé is a wine with very high ageing potential. It is one of those reds that should always be bought in at least two or three bottles at a time, to enjoy one immediately and let the others mature slowly in the cellar. While waiting, of course, to find the right occasion to share them with lifelong friends. We will thus discover a wine characterised by a beautiful intense red colour, with violet reflections that will tend to fade as the years go by. The nose has ethereal and vinous notes, with black fruits, cherries in alcohol, blackberries, myrtle, spices, eucalyptus, cocoa and salty notes. In the mouth, on the other hand, you will discover a wine characterised by a full, warm taste, with a nice, rich, ripe fruit and fine, perfectly ripe tannins. The finish, needless to say, will be long and persistent. Game is the right accompaniment. But also a very tasty first course such as pappardelle dressed with a thick meat sauce. Like the ones they used to make in the past.

Capichera is an Italian winery located in a corner of Sardinia, nestled among the granite rocks of Gallura. We are located in Arzachena, in a unique and fascinating natural setting, rich in ancient traditions. Capichera is a family-run business, founded in the late 1970s. It was the first winery to enhance its Vermentino in purity with the use of barriques, proposing a model based on a production of the highest quality and continuous research. All of this was done through a viticulture that respected and rigorously respected the identity of the territory, allowing this vine to reveal its great peculiarities and characteristics. It is no coincidence that many authoritative critics claim that the history of Capichera is, in fact, the history of quality Vermentino. Today, in addition to Vermentino, the winery also successfully works with other varieties, such as Carignano and Syrah, resulting in high-profile reds. Wines that are strongly identified with the Gallura area and united by the same production philosophy.
