"Solitario" Bianco DOC Sicilia Chardonnay 2020 - Patrì

The noble Chardonnay, originally from cold Burgundy, seems to have found its roots in Sicily, under the warm Mediterranean sun. And to surprise us all with peaks of absolute elegance and richness. Patrì dedicates its Chardonnay grapes to this Solitario Bianco, classified as DOC Sicilia. Harvested in the coolest hours of the day, the grapes are picked by hand and immediately taken to the cellar to be destemmed and sent to the press. Here we start with short macerations of the skins that allow the complete extraction of the best aromas. Then, after decanting, we move on to the fermentation phase with selected yeasts. Then, after fermentation, and until the moment it is bottled, the wine is kept in contact with its fine lees and, thanks to frequent battonage, the aromatic characteristics of the wine are enhanced and enriched. One thus discovers a glass of great beauty, characterized by a clear, straw-yellow colour with slight greenish reflections. The nose is complex, with distinct Mediterranean notes of citrus and orange blossom, enlivened by subtle and elegant scents of sage and elderflower. In the mouth, however, it is harmonious and fresh, with a slightly savoury finish that gives it depth.

Rocco, Patrizia and their children Giuseppe, Elisa and Daniela Patrì have a dream. That of enhancing the value of its historical viticultural heritage. For this reason, in 2010 they founded a new company in Butera, in the central-southern part of Sicily. An area particularly suited to the production of wine, an area containing some of the most prestigious Sicilian appellations, starting from Cerasuolo di Vittoria and Etna DOC, as well as DOC Sicilia of course. Lands, and grapes, capable of producing the wines that modern consumers demand, quality reds and whites, elegant, well-structured and Mediterranean but also capable of evoking suggestions linked to the territory of origin. All this is achieved through meticulous care in every aspect of the workmanship. From the countryside, where the company can now count on about 250 hectares, one third of which are planted with Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Syrah, Catarratto, Insolia, Grillo, Chardonnay, Zibibbo and Petit Manseng. All the way to the cellar and then to the bottle, the realm of oenologist Antonio Landolfi, who is entrusted with the supervision of winemaking. To date, the company is constantly going through a phase of full and constant growth. With an annual production of about 100,000 bottles that can grow a lot more, without having to compromise on quality.

  • Vinification The grapes are harvested at the crack of dawn and immediately taken to the winery to be destemmed and put into the press. Short macerations are carried out directly in the press before the soft pressing phase. The must is cold decanted before being inoculated with selected yeasts. The fermentation temperature is controlled in order to obtain a product that is able to express the typical characteristics of the vine at its best. After alcoholic fermentation and until bottling, the wine is kept in contact with the fine lees, with frequent stirring to enhance and enrich the wine's characteristics.
