It is the most interesting grape variety in Sicily. It is certainly the most fashionable one today. We are obviously talking about Nerello Mascalese, an autochthonous Sicilian grape that loves cool climates and is therefore usually cultivated in higher areas. Great capacity for ageing and extremely sensitive to the seasons, this vine is often compared to the more noble Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo. Cantine Europa offers it in this simple but elegant version. Sibiliana Roceno Nerello Mascalese, Terre Siciliane IGP, has a beautiful ruby red colour in the glass. On the nose, fresh fruity and floral notes stand out. It is easy to recognise marasca cherries, wild berries and violets, framed by light spicy notes of black pepper. In the mouth it reveals fine tannins and a great balance between alcohol and freshness. A wine that is good today, but which can also wait a few more months in the cellar. Savoury first courses, cured meats and cheeses are perfect for it. Also excellent with roasts or boiled meats.
