"Villa Antinori" Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2019 - Antinori Tenuta Tignanello

It's not every day that you get the chance to taste a wine that actually represents the history of an appellation. And not just any wine. But of one of the most beloved in the world, Chianti Classico. This honour is granted to us when we are lucky enough to come across a bottle like this. Villa Antinori Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva, in fact, is one of the historic labels of the Antinori house, created in 1928 by Marquis Niccolò. A wine produced to be aged and improved over time, since then it has found its place in the most prestigious cellars of embassies, royal houses, grand hotels and restaurants. It is made from Sangiovese grapes, for once flanked by other complementary varieties. The grapes are first destemmed and then softly crushed, to initiate alcoholic fermentation and maceration that lasts for about 12 days. At the end of malolactic fermentation, the blend is made, which is then left to age in barrels until spring. Intense ruby red in colour, the nose has notes of small red fruits, currants and raspberries that blend well with notes of cherries and a slight woodiness. In the mouth it is harmonious and round. Very fresh and tannic, it has a very pleasant finish. It goes well with game dishes, but also (and perhaps above all) with the more classic bistecca alla fiorentina.

It can be said that the Antinori family has represented Italian wine in the world for practically as long as it has existed. And it would not even be an exaggeration, given that the Antinori have dedicated themselves to the vineyard and the cellar for more than six hundred years. Ever since, in 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Since then, 26 generations of the family have succeeded one another at the helm of the group which today is one of the best known and most appreciated on a global level. Today the company is headed by Marquis Piero Antinori, with the support of his three daughters Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, all of whom are personally involved in the company's activities. To the family's historic Tuscan and Umbrian estates, several others have been added over time. Everywhere the aim of the Antinori family is to make the most of the particular terroir, to produce fascinating and in some way memorable wines. Among the "masterpieces" signed by Antinori we cannot forget the great Supertuscan of the family, Solaia and Tignanello, mythical bottles that fans all over the world eagerly await, vintage after vintage. Or the Chianti Classico wines that represent a point of reference for all wine lovers.

The nose expresses fruity notes of plum and black cherry accompanied by balsamic and mentholated hints and a complex spicy sensation of cocoa and tobacco. The entrance to the palate is soft and enveloping, the sweet tannins give length to the savoury and persistent finish.
  • Vinification The grapes were transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Maceration lasted approximately 12-15 days. At the end of malolactic fermentation, the various lots were blended and continued their maturation in wood, mainly in large casks and partly in barriques, until spring 2020.

    This is tight on the palate with cherries and berries and hints of toasted oak and cedar. It’s medium-bodied and compact, with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely fruit at the end. Drink or hold.
